Karla grew up in Oakton, VA, a suburb of Washington D.C. After a chilly year in Rhode Island pursuing a Culinary Degree from Johnson & Wales University she fled to Charleston for warmth. Continuing her education in the hospitality industry she earned a Masters Degree in Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism/Management at the University of South Carolina.

For eight years she worked at the prestigious Kiawah Island Country Club in Club Management and as their Corporate Recruiter and Trainer.
